N’Nonmiton: The Women Warriors of Dahomey

Nicknamed 'Dahomey Amazons,' the N'Nonmiton were an all-female militia in the kingdom of Dahomey (present-day Benin) until the late 19th century. In the Fon language, N'Nonmiton means 'Our Mothers.'
